North Beach is the city\u2019s Little Italy and former center of the Beat Generation. The writers, poets, and artists meeting place was Caff\u00e8 Trieste which opened in 1956. Francis Ford Coppola wrote much of the screen play for The Godfather<\/em> while sitting at this cafe. Chinatown is the oldest in North America. The city is\u00a0surrounded on three sides\u00a0by ocean and bay, and the tallest building is the Transamerica Pyramid.<\/p>\n
