White Rave

Scene: White. At the Sensation White party, noteable DJ’s spin House music, a genre of electronic dance music. The party is an experience
of amazing large scale theatrical presentation combined with brilliant
light/laser shows, and awesome media/performance art. It’s an harmonious, tribal, of the moment community. Ravers white up the night!
Sensation originated in the Netherlands in 2000. Video ©Sensation

Scene: Rave. In London in the late ’50s the term rave was used to describe the wild bohemian parties of the Soho beatnik set. In 1958 Buddy Holly recorded the hit Rave On citing the madness and frenzy of a feeling and the desire for it to never end. Rave was later used in the mod culture of the early ’60s. The Electric Circus nightclub and discotheque, opened in 1967 in the East Village on St. Marks Place in New York City. With a mix of light shows, music, circus performers and experimental theater, it embodied the ’60s club culture. Here’s DJ Anette Zeimentz, 2021.

Scene: Acid House and Techno. In the mid ’80s a wave of psychedelic and other electronic dance music, most notably acid house and techno, emerged in the clubs, warehouses, and free-parties — first scene in Manchester, England and later caught on in London. Here’s Inner City’s Good Life, 1988. Rave on! Photos ©Gavin Watson, rave photographer.
