Scene: Style and fashion in the historic center of San Francisco, located in the northeast quadrant of the city anchored by Market Street and the waterfront. The Financial District is here, with Union Square, a principal shopping and hotel district. Cable cars carry riders up steep inclines to the summit of Nob Hill, once home of the city’s business tycoons. North Beach is the city’s Little Italy and former center of the Beat Generation. The writers, poets, and artists meeting place was Caffè Trieste which opened in 1956. Francis Ford Coppola wrote much of the screen play for The Godfather while sitting at this cafe. Chinatown is the oldest in North America. The city is surrounded on three sides by ocean and bay, and the tallest building is the Transamerica Pyramid.
